Force Strong With Wild Things in Sweep-Clinching Win

WASHINGTON, Pa. (August 10) – Sebastian Rodriguez was excellent across seven shutout innings, a three-run fourth provided just enough offense and the Wild Things earned a sweep of the Gateway Grizzlies on Star Wars Night at EQT Park by a final of 3-2.

Rodriguez worked his third quality start and Washington’s fourth-straight quality start from their game frontman. He went seven, outdueling Lukas Veinbergs. Rodriguez didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning and allowed just two overall. He walked two and hit a batter against three strikeouts. Eventually, the righty earned his third win as a Wild Thing.

Washington plated three runs in the fourth inning against Veinbergs. The inning began with back-to-back singles by Andrew Czech and Wagner Lagrange. A couple batters later, Ethan Wilder poked a pitch up the right field line for a run-scoring double to open the scoring. Cole Fowler followed it with a book-rule, two-run double to left center to make it 3-0.

Gateway scored two in the eighth on a two-run homer by Dale Thomas off Joe Nahas, who ended up with a hold anyway as he left after an inning and a 3-2 lead intact.

Andrew Herbert worked the ninth and set Gateway down without a whimper, a la Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi laying down his lightsaber to become one with the force at the hands of Darth Vader.

The Wild Things got multi-hit nights from Ben Watson and Czech in the win.

Washington will use Monday to travel north of the border to the province of Québec for a week-long trip to the Atlantic Conference. A series with Trois-Rivières starts Tuesday and a rematch of the 2024 Frontier League Championship Series begins Friday. Tomorrow is the Frontier League transaction deadline.

First pitch Tuesday at Stade Quillorama is slated for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
