Dylan Kirkeby Signed After Acquisition in Trade

WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 30) – After acquiring him in a trade with the Windy City ThunderBolts Tuesday in exchange for right hander Tyler Wehrle, the Wild Things have signed righty Dylan Kirkeby to his Wild Things contract. He will start tonight for the club against New Jersey in the middle game at EQT Park.

Kirkeby has already played with two Frontier League teams this summer, with his most recent work obviously coming for the Bolts prior to this trade. With Windy City, he was 3-5 with a 5.19 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) and struck out 35 to 25 walks in 43.1 innings. He started the season on his first pro contract with the Schaumburg Boomers, where he started four games and was 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA and had 15 strikeouts to 14 walks in 21 innings. Overall, Kirkeby has made three quality starts, with back-to-back quality starts coming in, including his previous start Wednesday of last week against the Wild Things. He held the Things to three runs (two earned) on six hits in six innings. He struck out four.

Prior to Wednesday last week, he worked arguably his best outing as a professional, going 7.1 innings of five-hit, one-run ball against Joliet on the road. He walked just one and struck out eight. The other quality start came with the Bolts as well at home against Mississippi on June 19. He allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on four hits in six frames but suffered a loss.

It’s also the second time Kirkeby has been traded this season. He went to Windy City in a trade June 3, 2025. He spent five years at Northwestern College in Iowa, where he went 13-15 with a 4.63 ERA over 51 career games (46 starts). He left as the school’s all-time leader in strikeouts with 275 in 237.1 innings of work and was a three-time All-Great Plains Athletic Conference selection, including two First-Team selections. He attended Brandon Valley High School in his hometown of Brandon, South Dakota.

Kirkeby will start tonight as Washington looks to win the series over the Jackals in the middle game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
