Kyle Edwards Signed Following COPL All Star Appearance, Run at Old Dominion
ON THE ROAD (July 21) – The Washington Wild Things made a series of transactions Monday, signing utility Kyle Edwards, who was recently a Coastal Plain League All Star and a grad of Old Dominion.
In other moves made Monday, the Wild Things released infielder Tyler Young and outfielder Francisco Del Valle and placed right-handed pitcher Jacob McCaskey on the 7-Day Injured List, retroactive to Friday, July 18. Washington also activated right hander Lex Meinderts from the VISA inactive list. With the five transactions made, the Wild Things active roster stands at 22, the league’s minimum.
Edwards was playing with Peninsula in the COPL this summer and in 33 games slashed .285/.361/.350 with four doubles, two triples and 21 RBI. He was 41-for-42 in the stolen base department with 18 walks and 27 runs scored in his time with Peninsula. In four total collegiate summer seasons, he slashed .257/.350/.375 with 22 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 68 RBI to go with an 84-for-88 mark stealing bases. He played parts of two seasons with Peninsula and parts of three in the Valley League, the part coming with Strasburg and the first two with Charlottesville.
He played four seasons at Old Dominion ad totaled 201 games with the Monarchs. In 2025, he slashed .270/.354/.410 with 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 30 RBI. He was successful in 26 of 27 stolen-base attempts. Last spring, he slashed .283/.340/.455 with 19 doubles, three triples, five long balls and 34 RBI. In 50 games in 2023, he slashed .341/.379/.659 (1.038 OPS), he had eight doubles, a triple, six homers and 19 RBI in 96 plate appearances. In totality, Edwards slashed .268/.337/.432 with 41 doubles, six triples and 92 RBI. He was 61-for-70 in the stolen base department.
