Washington Signs Catcher Charles Mack, a 2018 Sixth Rounder
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 24) – The Washington Wild Things have announced the official signing of catcher Charles Mack, a 2018 sixth round pick of the Minnesota Twins out of Williamsville East High School (NY). He will wear #24 and be active tonight for the opener against the Crushers.
Mack began his pro career in 2018 with the GCL Twins in rookie ball and played in 30 games, posting 22 hits and 13 runs scored. In 2019, the Twins transferred him to another rookie ball affiliate with Elizabethton (APPY), where he hit .234/.313/.400 with 48 hits in 53 games, scored 33 runs and totaled 17 extra-base hits, including eight homers. He drove in 28.
With Fort Myers in 2021, Mack appeared in a career-high 73 games, hit seven long balls, drove in 30 and had seven doubles and two triples to go with a slash line of .229/.370/.368 with Fort Myers in A ball. He spent the next two seasons with High-A Cedar Rapids before a release in May, 2023 around some injured. He signed with the Nationals in March and was flipped between the development list and the active roster for Double-A Harrisburg.
Charles is the older brother of Joe Mack, a 2021 first rounder by the Marlins, who is currently with Triple-A Jacksonville in the Marlins’ farm system. Charles had committed to play at Clemson early in high school and was named 2018 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of New York. He was 2010 Pitch Hit N’ Run National Champion, a Perfect Game All American, Under Armour All American and was honored with other accolades in high school.
The Wild Things and Crushers open a three-game series tonight at EQT Park with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
