Wild Things Sign RHP Luke McCollough to Make Pro Debut Saturday in Florence
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 21) – The Washington Wild Things have signed right hander Luke McCollough, who will start tonight at Florence and make his pro debut in doing so. McCollough played the last two seasons of his collegiate career at Villanova in the BIG EAST Conference and was 5-2 this season in 13 games (all starts).
Across 77.2 innings this season, McCollough, a California native, posted an ERA of 4.06 and allowed 80 hits and 21 walks with 57 strikeouts. He was named All-BIG EAST Second Team this season, as he led the BIG EAST with 46.0 innings pitched in conference play, posting a 3.91 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in seven starts against conference foes. He went at least 6.1 innings in each of his last four starts, holding four of the conference’s top-five teams to three earned runs or fewer in each appearance, all quality starts. He had a 2.70 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP in that span with 20 strikeouts.
The righty was 5-4 in 17 games (12 starts) with a 5.20 ERA in 2024. In 64 innings, he walked 35 and struck out 48. His first season of college ball was played, and he made one appearance at Xavier in 2021. He then ended up at Utah Valley State for two seasons, where he made 23 total appearances. In the summer of 2023, he pitched 14.2 innings with Mankato in the Northwoods League, logging a 0.61 ERA in eight bullpen appearances. He allowed just seven hits and struck out nine with two runs against in that work.
McCollough becomes the 24th player on the active roster, so no corresponding move needed to be made to activate him to make the start tonight. The series and road trip continue at 6:36 p.m. with the middle game against the Y’alls. Washington will go for the series win tonight after taking last night’s series opener 3-2 in 10 innings.
