Wild Things Snap Skid With Late Chayka Double

PEARL, Ms (July 5) – The Washington Wild Things snapped a four-game skid with a gutsy, late-game victory to level the series in Mississippi. Robert Chayka’s RBI double in the ninth that scored Three Hillier gave Washington a 3-2 lead and Jordan DiValerio the win after a great start by him that lasted eight innings.
Mississippi scored against DiValerio on a sac fly by Travis Holt in the first and on an RBI single by Holt in the sixth. Otherwise, DiValerio was excellent, going eight frames for the second time this season and picking up his fifth quality start of 2025 in the process. He allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked one with the two earned runs against him, moving to 5-2.
Washington got two in the sixth on four-straight singles by Jeff Liquori, Tommy Caufield, Tyreque Reed and Andrew Czech. The back two scored the runs. Caufield’s extended his hit streak to 11 games and his on-base streak to 17 games. Chayka’s RBI double plated Hillier, who took a pitch off the plate in to right for a two-out single in the ninth.
Andrew Herbert collected his sixth save with a one-two-three ninth including a strikeout and a running grab by Kadon Morton on the track for the second out of the inning.
The win sets up a rubber game tomorrow to finish the 10-game trip for the Wild Things. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00/6:00 p.m. CT at Trustmark Park.
