Wild Things Sign New Glove for Behind the Plate

WASHINGTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things signed catcher and designated hitter Zach Fish as of July 21, 2016. This addition comes after backup catcher, Alex McKeon, was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Fish comes to the Wild Things after spending three seasons with the Chicago White Sox’s organization – during this time he produced 74 RBIs, 18 home runs and had a .234 batting average overall. Within the 2016 season, Fish was blasting .235 average with Chicago’s advanced-A team; he was also serving as an every day catcher and first baseman for the organization.

“I was really excited [to join this team],” said Fish. “I was able to reach out to [the Wild Things] and they gave me the opportunity to keep playing and that’s all you can ask for in this game is to have another at-bat. I’m really excited to get under way and start playing.

The Kalamazoo, Michigan native played college baseball at Oklahoma State University where he hit .314 with 11 home runs and 48 RBIs during his junior season; he was also named the Big 12 and was honored by being drafted by the Chicago White Sox with the eleventh pick in the 2014 MLB Amateur Baseball draft. The draft caused him to put his education on hold, as he chased his dreams in the minor leagues.

After spending three seasons with the White Sox organization, Fish was released earlier this season and was on the open market; that’s when the Wild Things came in and signed him. Fish will serve as the backup catcher to starter Kyle Pollock, catching when Pollock needs a day off. Fish will also be used in the designated hitters spot for the remainder season.
