Antonio Monroy Signed to Active Roster, Played Four Seasons in Mexican League
WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 26) – The Washington Wild Things have signed infielder Antonio Monroy, who has played the last four summers in the Mexican League with Quintana Roo. He’ll be active tonight in Schaumburg as the Wild Things open a series with the Boomers to start a six-game trip.
Monroy had his best of four seasons with Quintana Roo in 2025, playing in 54 games. He had four doubles, four homers and 18 RBI with five stolen bases and 20 walks in 147 plate appearances. He slashed .252/.388/.387. In 2024, he drove in seven and hit .243 with 117 trips over 50 games. The season prior in 2022 saw him have a career-best seven doubles with eight RBI and a .271 batting average in 167 plate appearances. He played in just 27 games and had 56 at bats his first season in Mexico in 2022.
Monroy played at Hope International in his final two collegiate seasons, going 27-for-80 with eight doubles, a home run and 15 RBI in the shortened 2020 season. He walked 14 times against nine strikeouts. In 2021, he played in 44 games and had 62 hits. Of those, 12 were doubles, one was a triple and 13 were homers. He drove in 44 and stole six bases and again walked more times than he struck out at 18 to 17. His 1.106 OPS helped earned him Second Team NAIA All-American honors for Hope International.
At Hope, Monroy was teammates for two seasons with current Wild Things pitcher Hector Garcia, while he was named All-American the same season as former Wild Thing Ryan Munoz (at Southeastern) and current Wild Thing Kobe Foster (at Tennessee Wesleyan). With Tigres de Quintana Roo, he played with former Wild Thing and now New York Mets’ farmhand Alex Carrillo (2022-23 in MEX) and with Kobe Foster last season before Foster’s return to Washington.
He played in 2018 at Georgetown (KY), another NAIA school and had nine homers, 10 doubles, five triples and 44 RBI. He played in 61 games that summer for Duluth (NWDS) and had 34 RBI to go with 11 stolen bases.
