Texas League Record Holder Signs with Washington

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 13)- The Wild Things continue with their roster building as they today sign experienced INF Randy Cesar.

The Santo Domingo native signed with the Houston Astros back in 2012 as a 17 year old. Cesar has annually showcased an impactful bat, posting a career .269 batting average but 2018 was his breakout season. While playing for the Corpus Christ Hooks in the Texas League Cesar went on to make history and broke a 49 year record, hitting in 42 consecutive games. His hitting streak ranks as one of the longest in Minor League Baseball's 120+ year history and he is the most recent player to hit in 40+ straight games professionally.

After a historic 2018 campaign, Cesar went on to sign with the Minnesota Twins where he appeared in 45 games with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. Despite some nagging injuries he went on to hit .262 and drove in 31 runs.

"Randy is a corner defender who has shown great development as a hitter. We greatly value his consistent run production and the level of competition he has faced," said General Manager Tony Buccilli. "We expect Randy to provide that daily threat in the middle of our lineup. He is eager to approach this opportunity and be an dynamic player in Washington," Buccilli stated.

The Wild Things take to the field as they open the season Friday, May 15 vs. the New York Boulders, with the home opener slated for Tuesday, May 19 to take on the Quebec Capitales at Wild Things Park.
