Washington Shut Out in Series-Opening Loss

MARION, Ill. – The Washington Wild Things (29-25) dropped the series opener against the Southern Illinois Miners (22-33) Tuesday night by a score of 1-0.

Brandon Bixler (0-2) started the game on the mound for Washington and pitched five innings of one-run baseball while allowing only four hits.  Joe Ravert relieved him in the sixth and threw two scoreless innings before Trevor Bradley tossed a scoreless eighth.  Despite the strong pitching effort, the Wild Things bats were silent as they were unable to tally a run in the three-hit shutout.

After three scoreless innings, the Miners were able to score the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.  Right-fielder Nolan Earley reached on a one-out base hit and then was able to advance to second and then score on back-to-back singles from catcher Ben Moore and first baseman Anthony Critelli.

The Wild Things will look to even up the series tomorrow, July 19 with first pitch slated for 8:05 p.m. EST.
