Wild Things GM Wears Pink!

Washington, PA – (September 1, 2017) Washington Wild Things’ General Manager Steven Zavacky has joined the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign.  Zavacky, who moved to Washington County with his family in 2002, says he wants to help save lives from breast cancer, and participating in this program offers him the opportunity to create awareness.

“Breast cancer research and treatment has come a long way over the years, and I believe with the continued push for awareness and the continued research, we can beat this wicked disease,” said Zavacky. “I believe early detection and prevention are key.”

As the general manager of a minor league baseball team, Zavacky is taking advantage of the opportunity to spread the word among many people….from the league, to the ballpark, to the community at large.  “I started wearing pink socks and pink Wild Things’ jerseys for games,” added Zavacky.  “People are stopping me to see why, and that gives me the opportunity to spread the word.  That’s what we need to do, so that people are aware and thinking about early detection.”

Zavacky, a Penn State Football season ticket holder, intends to take his pink message to Beaver Stadium each weekend this fall as well.  “We tailgate every weekend, and I’m going to ask for support while I’m there.  I have the pink bracelets to sell, and I have a great story to tell!” Zavacky continued.  “My parents join us when we’re there, and my mom is a survivor, so having her there with me as I try to raise money and awareness is even sweeter for me.”

Zavacky will be wearing pink and raising funds through October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  “I’m a competitive guy, and I know we can kick this disease,” added Zavacky.  “I invite everyone to join the fight, don the pink, and put an end to Breast Cancer.”
