Frontier League Wild Card Game 3 Primer
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 12) – After suffering defeat despite outhitting Florence by a wide margin in Game 2 thanks to a three-run eighth for the Y’alls the Midwest Conference Wild Card series shifts to Game 3 and it’s winner take all Saturday night at EQT Park with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Washington got a quality start from Kobe Foster Friday night, as he was tagged for just two hits, both homers, in seven frames. Foster, the 2026 Pitcher of the Year, got a no decision and fanned nine. The Y’alls ended up with three runs off Mack Anglin, who faced only three hitters in the eighth inning. He walked the first two and a Brett Blomquist double followed the walks, tying the game before two came in while Ben Kowalski was on the mound, charged to Anglin on a single by Hank Zeisler and a double play ball.
The Wild Things struck first with three two-out hits in the first inning in front of a sellout crowd in Game 2, scoring two on a single by Jeff Liquori that plated Andrew Czech and Anthony Brocato who had singled and doubled, respectively. The club added two in response to the first of two homers off Kobe in the fifth, as Liquori went the opposite way with the bases full to make it 4-1. Washington’s final run came on a two-out solo homer by Andrew Czech, which pulled the Wild Things within 6-5 in the ninth.
The Y’alls are turning back to game 1 starter Evan Webster in Game 3 today. Webster started Wednesday’s game and used 84 pitches to go 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) with two walks and a pair of strikeouts. He was arguably Florence’s best starter in the regular season, logging a team-high 119.2 innings and a 4.81 earned run average with 99 strikeouts against 36 walks. He pitched against Washington four times and was 2-1 with a 4.37 ERA in 22.2 innings against the Things. He allowed 14 hits and 12 runs (11 earned) with 10 walks and 16 strikeouts in that work during the regular campaign.
Righty Kelvin Perez will take the ball for Washington in Game 3 to start. It’ll be his Frontier League Playoff debut. In 21 appearances (eight starts) during the regular season, Perez was 6-3 in 63 innings, scattering 58 hits and 29 runs (27 earned). He walked only 16 and fanned 37. He did pitch four times against Florence, twice at EQT Park in relief and twice as a start at Thomas More Stadium, including a quality start August 30, where in six innings he allowed five hits and a run on a solo homer with three punchouts.
