Wild Things Swipe Game One Behind Quiroz's Three RBI, Kirby's Quality Start
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 9) – The Wild Things did plenty enough offensively, highlighted by Isaias Quiroz’s three-RBI night and got an excellent start from Zach Kirby, en route to an 8-3 win in Florence to take a 1-0 advantage in the best of three Frontier League Wild Card series against the Y’alls. The series now shifts to Washington for Game 2 Friday night at EQT Park.
Washington scored the first two runs of the contest in the second inning on RBI singles by Connor Peek and Isaias Quiroz but didn’t manage to plate more until the seventh. In the seventh, Cole Fowler led the inning off with a solo homer and Miles Simington drove in Caleb Ketchup with a single. Ketchup was hit by a pitch and went to second on a sac bunt by Quiroz. The Ketchup run made it 4-0.
All the while, Kirby rolled. He went six scoreless to start before allowing a solo homer to Zade Richardson in the seventh. Kirby allowed two hits and the run in seven innings and fanned seven, making his fourth career playoff start.
The Wild Things drew four-straight walks to start the eighth with Cole Fowler’s bases-loaded walk making the lead 5-1. Later in the frame, Quiroz drove in two with an opposite-field single to right field down the line. Richardson’s two-run single in the eighth pulled Florence within four, but the Y’alls couldn’t get closer. Kenten Egbert got a big strikeout to end the Florence threat in the eighth.
Jeff Liquori drove in a run with a single in the ninth before Mack Anglin finished it off in the bottom half.
The 8-3 win sends Washington to a 1-0 series lead and a chance to close it out Friday with the 2026 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year Kobe Foster toeing the rubber against Florence’s Jonaiker Villalobos. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. September 11.
