Wild Things Drop Close Middle Game, Win Streak Ends at Seven
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 5) – In a tight middle game against Schaumburg, the Wild Things saw their win streak snapped at seven with a 6-5 decision going the way of the visitors fueled by four runs in the seventh. Washington did their best to come back, getting as close as one, but was unable to complete the bid, leaving one game left in the regular season.
Washington got on the board first on Jeff Liquori’s 14th homer of the year, belted in the bottom of the first. Cole Turney responded for Schaumburg with a two-run homer off Ben Kowalski, who worked six innings of two-run ball, that being his lone blemish in the quality start and no decision. Kyle Edwards hit a solo shot in the second to tie things at 2-2, where they’d stay until the seventh inning.
Schaumburg got three baserunners including a solo homer to put the Boomers ahead against Mack Anglin to start the frame. The two runners following the leadoff homer came in along with another against Jack Brodsky. The first two were charged to Anglin, who suffered the loss. Washington got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on a sac fly by Miles Simington and two back in the eighth on a two-run double by Antonio Monroy.
Washington was unable to grab a runner in the ninth.
The Wild Things’ playoff opponent is still unknown. With the results in the conference today, Schaumburg is a win or a Windy City loss away from a West title while the Windy City and Florence finale Sunday afternoon, which is a win and in game. If Windy City wins and Washington knocks off Schaumburg, the Bolts will win the West and Washington will play at Schaumburg Wednesday.
The finale of the series and regular season is slated for 4:05 p.m. tomorrow at EQT Park. It’s a Kids Eat Free Sunday and Fan Appreciation Day. Gates open at 3 p.m. and all fans through the gates will have a chance to win some great prizes.
