Wild Things Fall in Rubber Game in Joliet, Division Lead Down to Two
JOLIET, Il. (Aug. 23) – The Wild Things dropped the rubber game Sunday in Joliet by a final of 7-3, doomed by a four-run third inning and a lack of multi-run innings themselves, as the week ends at 2-4 and with Evansville’s sweep of Florence, with a two-game lead for the Central’s top spot with 12 to go.
Kelvin Perez worked well through two frames before running into trouble in the third, allowing four runs to the Slammers, who eventually added singular runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to extend the lead.
Washington plated single runs in the fourth through sixth innings, two of which came in on Anthony Brocato solo homers, as he hit his 28th and 29th of the season, now good for the second-most in a single-season in team history, as he tied and then passed his 28 from 2023. The other Washington tally came in on a wild pitch.
The Wild Things’ playoff magic number did fall to two with Windy City’s loss to Gateway. Washington continues its road trip Tuesday at Gateway at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CDT.
