Czech and Brocato Combine For Three Long Balls in Lopsided Loss
PEARL, Ms. (Aug. 16) – In an otherwise unpleasant night for the Wild Things the Bash Brothers combined for three homers in a 17-8 loss to the Mississippi Mud Monsters, which allowed the home club to earn a series split with the first-place Wild Things in Pearl. Andrew Czech belted two long balls and Anthony Brocato hit his solo homer 464 feet.
Mississippi scored three times in the second, once in the third, three times in the fourth, four times in the fifth, four times in the seventh and twice in the eighth, notching a season-high 20 hits against the Wild Things and a season-high 17 runs. It was easily Washington’s worst night on the mound all year in Game No. 84 of 102. Ben Kowalski was tagged for seven in four innings, Colt Anderson for two in two frames, Jack Brodsky for four (two earned) in his inning of work and Michael Foltz Jr. for two in his outing over one inning.
Czech blasted two homers and finished the series 12-for-22 at the plate with 12 RBI and 20 trips aboard the bases, which put him at 92 for the season, growing on a new career high. He’s three RBI shy of tying the single season record for Washington. Anthony Brocato’s 464-foot blast was his 26th of 2026 and traveled farther than any other ball this season hit by a Wild Thing. Washington plated two in the eighth on a bases-loaded walk to Billy Sullivan and a groundout by Kyle Edwards before adding a run on a wild pitch in the ninth.
The Wild Things will make their way home for a massive three-game series with second-place Evansville. The lead in the Central Division stands at five games with 18 to play. Tuesday’s first pitch on First Responders Night and another $2.50 Tuesday is slated for 7:05 p.m.
