Wild Things Sign RHP Will Rettig to Make Pro Debut in Game 1 Wednesday
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 24) – Prior to today’s doubleheader with the Windy City ThunderBolts, the Washington Wild Things have signed right-handed pitcher Will Rettig, a two-time Division III All-American, to the active roster. He will start Game 1 tonight, making his pro debut.
Rettig earned third team honors this season from d3baseball.com and fourth-team honors from ABCA/Rawlings, thanks to an 11-0 regular season that saw him break the career strikeout record at Denison University. It was the second All-American honor for Rettig, who was fifth team in 2024.
In total he was 12-2 this season, including the postseason, in 17 games (15 starts). He had a 2.54 ERA in 95.2 innings and allowed 92 hits and 33 runs (27 earned) with 22 walks and 85 strikeouts. Last season, he had a 2.69 ERA with a 6-1 record in 15 games (eight starts). He had two saves last season as well in 63.2 innings with 47 hits allowed, 26 walks and 74 strikeouts.
In 2024 when he won his first All-American laurel, he was 9-1 with a 3.23 ERA in 14 games (all starts) and 75.1 innings. He struck out 66 against 25 walks. As a freshman in 2023, he posted a 2.95 ERA and a 3-0 record in 16 games (10 starts). He had a complete game and a save in 58 innings. He struck out 43 and walked 15.
He was ABCA/Rawlings Third-Team All-Region, 2024 and 2025 All-NCAC Second Team, 2026 All-NCAC First Team and a 2025 NCAC All-Tournament Team selection along with his two All-American honors.
He played baseball and softball at Perrysburg High School and was All-NLL Second Team, First-Team All-District 9 and PBR Ohio All-State Honorable Mention.
