Washington Signs OF Jeff Sabater After Much Success in College Ranks
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 23) – The Washington Wild Things have made an addition to the active roster prior to Tuesday’s morning affair scheduled with the Windy City ThunderBolts, which opens a week-long, eight-game homestand for the club. The team signed outfielder Jeff Sabater, who finished his collegiate career at East Carolina this year as a grad transfer.
Sabater played in 42 games for ECU in 2026 and slashed .358/.445/.432 with five doubles, a triple and 20 RBI. He swiped three bases and walked 10 times to go with 23 runs in 113 plate appearances. It was his first and only season with East Carolina. He played the previous two seasons at Millersville University, closing his two-year run ranked third in career steals (96) and ninth in batting average (.367) in program history. He led the PSAC in stolen bases both seasons, swiping 39 in 2025 and 57 in 2024.
In 2025, he was named All-PSAC East First Team and consensus All-Atlantic Region Second Team. He slashed .363/.491/.478 (.969 OPS) with eight doubles, five triples (tied Millersville single-season record), a homer and 36 RBI. He swiped 39 of 43 tries in the stolen-base department and walked 39 times against 26 strikeouts. In 2024, Sabater hit .372/.417/.383 with two doubles, 28 RBI and 57 stolen bases in 64 tries. He was named All-PSAC First Team and D2CCA All-Atlantic Region First Team. The stolen-bases number led all of NCAA baseball and set a conference record in 2024.
He played at Northampton Community College his first two seasons in college. As a freshman in 2022, he had 70 hits with a .490 batting average and 29 stolen bases. He was named Second Team All-Region. As a sophomore in 2023, Jeff had 168 at bats and held a .440 batting average with a .655 slugging percentage, ending the season with nine doubles, nine triples and three homers. He posted 30 stolen bases and crossed the plate 68 times and was Second Team All-Region.
Jeff won three varsity letters at North Penn High School and played two summers in collegiate summer leagues, including stealing 21 bases in 24 games for Silver Spring-Takoma in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League.
Sabater will be active for the morning game and the Wild Things now have 24 active players on the roster.
