Sussex County Scores Four in Sixth To Best Wild Things

AUGUSTA, NJ (June 30) - The Wild Things opened the scoring with two in the sixth inning of Wednesday's middle game but Sussex County's answer and response in the bottom half is what ultimately sank the Wild Things in the contest, allowing Sussex County to take the series with a 4-2 win.

After Mike Castellani and Ryan Hennen both put up five zeroes to start their nights, both were pounced on in the sixth. With the bases full in the top half, right fielder Hector Roa lined a single to right to bring home the game's first run, and a second scored on the play after an error by Aaron Knapp for the Miners. Washington couldn't add on though, and would see that lead evaporate in the home half, as Sussex County got a sac fly to tie it, a fielder's choice to score the tying run and a two-run, bases-loaded single by catcher John Jones to give the Miners the 4-2 lead they wouldn't let up.

Mike Castellani got the win after seven innings of two run ball, one of which was earned, while Ryan Hennen suffered his first loss, allowing four earned over 6.1 innings of work. Castellani and the combo of Jalen Miller Sr. and Michael Mediavilla combined to set down each of the last seven Wild Things to come to the plate to earn the series win.

Sussex County looks for a sweep tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Ben Vicini will make his first professional start after the scheduled starter Kevin McNorton was placed on the injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sunday, June 27. Alexander Vargas will toe the rubber for the Miners.
