NCAA National Champion Added to Washington

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 6)- The Wild Things continue with their roster building as they today sign INF Nick DeTringo.

The infielder finished collegiately at the University of Tampa, making quite the impact for the Spartans. His career .321 average ranked as one of the best in program history with 18 HRs and 89 career runs driven in to compliment his production.

After being a vital piece of the University of Tampa's World Series victory in 2019, DeTringo signed on with the Ottawa Champions to begin his professional career. In 42 games played he collected 27 hits, drove in 9 runs finishing with a .223 average. In late August DeTringo was awarded the Can-Am Batter of the Week, when he finished a 6 game span hitting .500 and helping the Champion's to a handful of series wins.

"Over the holiday break we were contacted by a scout in Florida regarding Nick and his availability. We always hold winners from winning programs in high regards when adding to our culture," said General Manager Tony Buccilli. "There were flashes during his campaign with Ottawa and he will be another valuable asset to assist in the transition to our new division. Nick seems to be a rookie able to add a physical style of offense while maintaining a high level across the infield," Buccilli stated.

The Wild Things take to the field as they open the season Friday, May 15 vs. the New York Boulders, with the home opener slated for Tuesday, May 19 to take on the Quebec Capitales at Wild Things Park.
