Havird's CG SO, Offenses's 20 Hits Highlight Win at T'Bolts

CRESTWOOD, Il. (July 30) - In his first start since the passing of his father, John Havird tossed a complete-game shutout against the ThunderBolts to help pace a win Tuesday night in Crestwood, Illinois, which also featured 12 runs on 20 hits by the Wild Things. It was Havird's second shutout of the year.

Havird struck out nine batters, including the final two of the game, and allowed just six hits in what would turn out to be his fifth win of the 2019 campaign. He did not walk a batter, did not hit a batter and stranded a total of seven baserunners. One had reached on an error. The first-year Wild Things also pitched a shutout of nine innings at Joliet on June 14. It also runs the Wild Things' staff scoreless innings streak to 23.2 innings, and serves as the 7th shutout of the season and second consecutively.

The Wild Things scored four runs in the first inning before Havird even took the mound, then added six in the fourth and two more in the seventh. The night was highlighted by JJ Fernandez notching five hits, including three doubles. He drove in three and became the third Wild Thing to match the franchise record for hits in a game this season, with his 5-for-6 effort. Shaine Hughes and Hector Roa have done it already this year. Joining Fernandez in the multi-hit department were JR Davis (3-for-6, 2B), Cameron Baranek (2-for-3, 3 RBI, SF, 2 BB), Ryan Cox (2-for-5, 2B, RBI), Hughes (2-for-4, 3 R, RBI) and Roa (2-for-4). Drew Bene also drove in three with a bases-clearing double in the fourth.

The win pushes the Wild Things to within 11 games of .500 and they'll go at it again with Windy City tomorrow for the middle game, with first pitch slated for 8:05 p.m. ET.
