Wild Things Collect 13 Hits, Defeat Windy City
WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 16) - Washington received multi-hit performances from five players in Tuesday's series-opening win against the ThunderBolts at Wild Things Park. Hector Roa, JJ Fernandez, Cody Erickson, Saige Jenco and Bret Marr each had at least two hits, with Roa collecting three.
 
Windy City started the scoring in the second, plating two on two separate plays. Washington answered with five in the home half on five different plays.
 
Tyler Straub hit a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the lead for Washington to 5-4. The Wild Things added a run on JJ Fernandez' second RBI single of the night in the fifth, making it 6-4. The Wild Things then added three in the seventh.
 
Hector Roa finished a home run shy of the cycle and had three hits, while driving home one. Fernandez and Erickson both had two hits and two RBI. Jenco and Marr each had two hits, with Jenco having a double.
 
Nick Gallagher started and got a no decision with 3.2 innings of work in his pro debut. He allowed four runs. Carter Johnson got the win after 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Jesus Balaguer pitched 1.1 scoreless and BJ Sabol tossed 0.2 innings. Zach Reid tossed a scoreless ninth in his pro debut, and got a double play to end the game.
 
The middle game takes place tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. It's a pair of left handers set to start. Chris Washington goes for the Bolts against Josh Lapiana for the Wild Things.
