Roa & Fernandez Named to 2019 All Star Team

The Washington Wild Things are proud to announce that OF Hector Roa and 1B JJ Fernandez have been selected as starters in the 2019 Can-Am League versus Frontier League All-Star Game. The game will be played at the home of the Rockland Boulders, Palisades Credit Union Park, on July 10th.

Roa is making his first appearance as an All-Star in his third season with Washington. Posting a .282 batting average with 10 doubles, his 6 HR and 31 RBI leads the squad and among the league leaders in both categories. The fan favorite is on pace to set career highs in both doubles and RBI in a season. Roa’s All-Star selection and starting nod continues an impressive streak for Washington outfielders. Since 2016, the Wild Things have had at least one starting OF in the All-Star Game (totaling 6 starters in that 4 year span).

Fernandez joins the All-Star squad in his first season in Washington after previous years in the Atlantic League and Can-Am League. The switch-hitting 1B is hitting .289 with 5 HR, 23 RBI and adds 8 stolen bases to his resume. Fernandez is on pace to have one of his best years as a professional, on pace for career highs in multiple categories; walks, stolen bases, runs driven in, and HR. The 25 year old is the first All-Star at 1B since 2017, when Kane Sweeney got the nod.

All-Star events begin with the All-Star Charitable Luncheon featuring New York Yankees' broadcaster John Sterling on Tuesday, July 9. The Home Run Derby takes place that night and features former New York Yankees and Mets players Mookie Wilson, Jesse Barfield, and John Flaherty.

The Can-Am League vs. Frontier League All-Star Game presented by WMC Health/Good Samaritan Hospital is Wednesday, July 10. For tickets and additional information, please visit http://www.rocklandboulders.com/allstarsummer2019
