Washington Drops Back and Forth Series Finale to Otters
EVANSVILLE, In. (May 30) - After leading 2-1 after three innings, the Wild Things fell in the series finale Thursday at Bosse Field, 9-5 to Evansville. Saige Jenco homered and doubled home a run, while Wander Franco added his second home run of the year for Washington in the loss.

Evansville got the scoring started in the series finale in the second when catcher Rob Calabrese homered to open the scoring. The solo shot was one-upped by Washington's Franco in the third. His two-run homer made it 2-1 Wild Things after two and a half.

Evansville's Dakota Phillips tied the game with a solo homer of his own in the fourth before the Otters managed five runs against Washington starter Nick Wegmann in the fifth.

Washington was able to get two back in the sixth to make it 7-4 with the home run by Jenco and an RBI single by JJ Fernandez, but the Otters tagged Roberto Delgado for two in the home half to make the lead five again.

Jenco doubled home Ryan Cox after a double and an error put the Wild Things' shortstop at third. That came in the seventh frame and would turn out to be all Washington would get in the comeback effort.

Nick Wegmann took the loss, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing seven runs, all earned, on eight hits. Delgado was charged with the two runs before Nick Durazo pitched two innings of clean baseball with two punchouts.

Ryan Cox and Jenco added two hits for multi-hit efforts for the Wild Things, who fell in their sixth-straight series finale and series to start the 2019 season.

Washington will finish the road trip with three games in Sauget, Illinois, at the home of the Gateway Grizzlies. The series opener is slated for 8:05 p.m. ET Friday night.
