Sixth Rounder Mondile Joins Wild Things

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Mar. 28)- The Wild Things announced today the signing of RHP Tyler Mondile for the 2019 season.

The 21 year old was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 6th round of 2016 MLB Draft out of Gloucester Catholic High School in New Jersey. Mondile created serious buzz as a prospect when he went head-to-head and shined, defeating Red Sox's first round selection LHP Jay Groome in a high school match-up.

In 3 seasons with the Reds' affiliates Mondile made 31 starts and posted a 5.37 ERA. He struck out 118 in over 154 innings pitched with only allowing 40 free passes. Most recently he pitched for the Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League, throwing a career high 76 innings and striking out a career high 64 batters.

"Tyler will walk into our clubhouse as the youngest player on our roster but most likely having one of the most talented arms", said General Manager Tony Buccilli. "Being only 21 years old, we see a lot of upside to his game. There's a natural competitiveness and demeanor to Tyler's outings that we believe is valuable. Our goal this season is to tap into and refine some of his arm talent and get his starts consistently trending in the right direction", Buccilli stated.

The East Division Champions return to the field as they open the season Thursday, May 9 at River City, with the home opener slated for Friday, May 17 at Wild Things Park.
