Washington Wild Things Release 2019 Schedule

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 15) - For the fourth consecutive season, the Washington Wild Things will open the season on the road, as they will begin the 2019 season at River City Thursday, May 9, the Frontier League announced Monday.

The full 2019 Frontier League schedule was released today, and the Wild Things' slate for next season includes a West-Division matchup to begin the season, as well as a nine-game homestand for the team's first homestand of the season. Washington, after playing four games at River City and three at Schaumburg to open the year, will open the 2019 home schedule Friday, May 17 against the Lake Erie Crushers.

With the departure of the Traverse City Beach Bums and the Normal CornBelters from the Frontier League, the league will field only 10 teams for the first time since 2006. Each division remains intact, simply with Traverse City departing from the East Division and Normal leaving the West Division. Each team will still play 96 regular season games. In past years with 12 teams, each team played 12 games against each division opponent and six against each opponent from the opposite division. In 2019, each team has been paired with one inter-division team for a 12-game slate, and will play each of the other four teams from the other division nine times. The nine-game slates see one team hosting six of the nine games and traveling to the opponent for the other three.

Washington has been paired with Florence for the 12 games, and will travel twice to River City and Gateway, and host Evansville and Southern Illinois twice.

Two games will be played Thursday, May 9 to open the league's 27th season. The Wild Things will open at River City, and the 2018 Frontier League Champion Joliet Slammers will open the season that night as well and host Windy City. With the four-game series scheduled for opening weekend at River City, Washington and the Rascals will only play a two-game set later in the season when the Wild Things return to O'Fallon, Missouri.

There is one scheduled doubleheader at home in 2019: Thursday, May 23 against Florence. Two home day games highlight the schedule as well, as the Wild Things host the Freedom at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, and host the Crushers at the same time Wednesday, June 26.

The home portion of the 2019 schedule involves the nine-game homestand to kick things off from May 17-26, which will include all of the May home dates, 15 home games in June and 12 home games in both July and August. The Wild Things will host the defending champs for the first time from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30.

The league's All Star Break will run from Monday, July 8 through Thursday, July 11. It has not yet been announced where the All Star festivities will take place.

Washington will round out the 2019 home schedule with a three-game series against the Southern Illinois Miners from Friday, August 23 through Sunday, August 25, before closing the regular season with a five-game trip in the St. Louis area, with the two against River City and three at Gateway.
