Wild Things Add Two Players

Washington, PA (November 7, 2016)  The Washington Wild Things announced Monday that OF David Popkins has been traded to the Rockland Boulders in exchange for OF Quinnton Mack and RHP Joe Ravert.

“It has truly been a pleasure to be a part of the Washington Wild Things. I want to thank the fans for all the support. I would also like to thank our incredible coaching staff and the Wild Things’ organization. I wish them the best of luck going forward. Go Thangs!” David Popkins wrote in a statement.

Popkins has been a staple in the Wild Thing’s offense the past two seasons, smashing 35 homeruns and driving in 94 RBI.

“David has been a great asset to the Wild Things the past two seasons. We knew it was important for us to find him the ideal landing spot to continue his career, once it was determined he could not return to Washington for a third season,” noted Wild Things’ General Manager, Steven Zavacky.

In return for Popkins, the Wild Things acquire OF Quinnton Mack and  RHP Joe Ravert from the Boulders.  Mack was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 35th round of the 2015 June Draft and split time with Hillsboro and Kane County. He was signed by the Rockland Boulders in 2016, where he made 15 starts in CF and hit .268 in his first experience in Independent Baseball.

Ravert is a Malvern, PA native who played collegiately at LaSalle University. The 6’3” 220-pounder was a two-way star who started 32 games on the mound and hit 20 career homeruns. With Rockland he started three games, striking out 17 batters in over 20 innings of work.

“Both Quinnton and Joe are first and foremost great character guys. Quinnton, who has great bloodlines (his father is a former big leaguer) is working hard to continue his dream. Joe has dedicated his free time to charities and Christian leadership. On the field, we look for both players to add great depth to the Wild Things roster,” Zavacky added.

The Wild Things’ 16th home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 19th when they will host the Windy City Thunderbolts.  For information about tickets call the box office at 724.250.9555.
