Around the Diamond: LHP Cole Way

Q: Why did you choose to pursue a career in baseball?

A: Baseball has always been my favorite sport. I chose to play college football because my brother had a great freshman season, and being a competitive little brother, I wanted to do the same thing! Also, my best friend signed to play free safety at the same school.

Q: Do you and your brother argue over which is better - baseball or football?

A: We actually don't because baseball has always been his favorite sport, too. He would trade places with me in a heartbeat.

Q: What benefits do you think your height provides - you’re 6’11, right?

A: I think being this tall helps me get a good angle with my release point that not a lot of hitters have ever seen.  Also, with my stride being as long as it is, my release point is much closer to the plate.

Q: What has been your favorite memory playing baseball?

A: I would have to say with Kansas City, all the different cultures and backgrounds everyone comes from. Coming together with all of them to compete and play ball was an amazing experience.

Q: Why did you participate in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)?

A: FCA had a huge impact on my life and really helped me stay grounded through college, sports and professional baseball. I have been incredibly blessed with family, friends, and an amazing opportunity to play baseball again. I just want to give back to the lord and the community, as well as share my story and experiences!

Q: What was the transition like from being a punter to playing baseball every day?

A: It was tough on my arm at first, but the game itself is always going to be the same. I didn't find the transition to be too difficult because playing ball is what I should have been doing all along.

Q: What do you hope to bring to the Washington Wild Things?

A: I hope to bring a competitive mentality and a lot of positivity with the fellas. Everyone plays better when they hold each other to a higher standard and have fun doing it.

Q: Why do you encourage people to attend Frontier League games?

A: I would say to come out because it's a bunch of guys that love the game of baseball. Everyone will bring it every day because that's how the game should be played, and that's what the crowds will see!

Q: Why do you love the Washington Wild Things?

A: I love the Wild Things because they are showing faith in me and giving me an opportunity to play a game that I love. Even after three years of college football, and three years with Kansas City, I feel like I still have a lot of growing to do and a lot of baseball left in me. The Wild Things are allowing me to go out and compete every day!
