Two Trevors, Two Wins for Wild Things

The Washington Wild Things (7-4) defeated the Southern Illinois Miners (4-7) in both games of the doubleheader on Wednesday, outscoring the Miners 12-1 in fourteen innings.

In a 10-0 game one win, starting pitcher RHP Trevor Foss (3-0) for the Wild Things continued his stellar start to the 2017 season. Foss carried a no-hitter through six innings, giving up his lone hit to start off the seventh. He also struck out six while dropping his ERA on the season to 0.90 in his first complete game of the year. Through 20 innings this season, Foss has struck out 19 and only allowed two earned runs.

The Wild Things exploded offensively, erupting for 13 hits. LF Bralin Jackson went 3-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while CF Rashad Brown extended his hitting streak to six games. DH Kenny Peoples-Walls went 2-4 with two RBI’s and two runs.

For the Southern Illinois Miners, starting pitcher RHP Zach Cooper (1-2) was knocked out in the fifth and charged with nine runs in the effort.

Game two was much more even sided, with a pitcher’s dual between LHP Trevor Belicek for the Wild Things and RHP Corey Sessions for the Miners. The Wild Things scored first off a RF Kenny Peoples-Walls’ double to left field that scored Bralin Jackson. The Wild Things won 2-1, thanks to a Kyle Pollock RBI double in the fourth inning.

Belicek got the win for the Wild Things, while Sessions (0-2) received the loss for the Miners. RHP Zach Strecker saved his second game of the season.
