Wild Things Avoid Sweep With Walk-Off Win Over Florence

WASHINGTON, Pa., May 28 – The Washington Wild Things (9-6) avoided the sweep at the hands of the Florence Freedom (11-4) with a walk-off win in the bottom of the 11th inning, taking the extra-inning affair, 9-8.

It was a roller-coaster type of game for the Wild Things who battled hard after losing the first two games of the series against the Florence Freedom. The Wild Things started the game down 1-0 in the 2nd inning before adding six runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Freedom weren’t going to go away quietly as they scored six runs over the next five innings to take a lead.

Down 7-6 entering the bottom of the 7th, outfielder Bralin Jackson hit a home run to left field tying the game at seven. The Sunday contest went to extra innings, as the Wild Things were down to their last chance after the Freedom took the lead in the top of the 11th. With Kyle Pollock on 2nd in the bottom of the 11th down a run, outfielder Rashad Brown hit a ball hard into right center to score Pollock and pulled into third with a triple. With two outs, Jackson delivered again with a walk-off single to right scoring Brown and securing the win for the Wild Things.

The Wild Things will hit the road starting on Tuesday, May 30, to face the Joliet Slammers. The next home series will begin Friday, June 2, with a weekend series against the Traverse City Beach Bums.
