SP Zack Tillery Signed, Activated by Wild Things

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things have signed another starting pitcher, and he will start tonight’s game in Schaumburg. Today, the team officially inked Zack Tillery, a right-hander that was drafted in the 13th round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft.

Tillery, who played his college ball at Florida Gulf Coast University, was released earlier this season after spending four seasons in minor-league ball within the Minnesota Twins’ organization. Between two rookie-ball teams in 2014, he had an earned run average of 2.37 in 38 innings. Tillery then spent two full, and the start of a third season with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Twins’ A-ball team, where he pitched well in 2015 before only throwing 10 innings in 2016. In seven innings on the hill this season out of the bullpen, the right-hander had given up five runs and walked 14.

At FGCU, Tillery had a career earned run average of 3.94 in 33 total appearances spanning three years. Tillery tossed 96 innings and had a strikeout to walk total of 56 to 33.

The righty will start tonight’s game in Schaumburg, Illinois, as the Wild Things look to build off a 7-4 win last night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
