Wild Things Mount Comeback to Win

Joliet, IL – The Washington Wild Things made a dramatic comeback Thursday night against the Joliet Slammers with a final score of 7-5 at Silver Cross Field.

The Slammers again got out to an early lead in the first inning on a bases loaded walk to Boo Vazquez, scoring Melvin Rodriguez to put the Slammers up 1-0. A double by Carter Bell set up another run for Joliet in the bottom of the second off a Charlie White single to the pitcher. The Slammers again extended their lead to 3-0 on a Joe Staley sac fly, scoring Boo Vazquez.

A walk to Scott Carcaise and Alex McKeon single in the top of the 4th inning set up the Wild Things first run of the night off an error by the Joliet third baseman, cutting the lead to 3-1.  The Slammers answered with two runs in the bottom of the 5th off a Joe Staley two run shot, extending the lead to 5-1.

The Washington bats exploded in the 7th inning to mount a four run comeback. Walks to Jamal Austin and Austin Wobrock set up the second run of the evening for the Wild Things on a Grant Fink RBI Single. A wild pitch would score Wobrock and Fink. Jimmy Yezzo completed the comeback with a solo shot to right, tying the game at 5-5.

Austin Wobrock played the role of hero as his RBI single in the eighth held up to be the winning wining run, putting the Wild Things ahead 6-5. Grant Fink delivered an insurance run on a sacrifice fly, scoring Jamal Austin to extend the Washington Lead to an eventual final score of 7-5.

Devon Davis (1-0) earned the victory on the mound for Wild Things, striking out five and surrendering just one hit. His mound counterpart Brent Choban (0-1) took the loss, giving up five hits and four runs.
