Washington Beats Normal 4-1

Normal, IL – The Washington Wild Things continued their six game road trip as they traveled to Normal Illinois to begin a three game series against the Normal CornBelters. Wild Things pitcher Trevor Foss improved to (2-2) on the season with his first complete game of the season in a 4-1 final score victory. Foss finished the day with eight strikeouts and allowed just one run off six hits.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the 4th inning, as solid pitching and defense from both sides seemed to be the story of the night. Singles by Austin Wobrock and Ricky Rodriguez set up the first run of the game when Jimmy Yezzo connected for a two out RBI single giving the Wild Things a 1-0 lead.

Washington extended their lead in the top of 5th as a walk to Justin Fox and error by the CornBelters set up a two run double by David Popkins, scoring both Wobrock and Fox to give the Wild Things a 3-0 lead. The Belters answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th off a Dylan Kelly RBI single that brought in Dillon Haupt, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Grant Fink topped things off for Washington with a solo home run in the top of the sixth, adding some insurance to the lead and extending it to 4-1. Normal pitcher Chris Carmain (0-3) is charged with the loss, surrendering four runs off eight hits in seven innings pitched.
