Washington's Ninth Inning Comeback Falls Short

Washington, PA (June 9, 2016) - The Washington Wild Things (11-12) wrapped up the final game of their three game series with the Windy City Thunderbolts, with a 3-2 loss.  Starting pitcher Luke Wilkins made his second appearance of the season.

The game was knotted at one run each through six innings.

Jamal Austin tripled and Jimmy Yezzo drove him in with two outs to plate Washington’s first run.

Wilkins, who controlled the game into the seventh inning, faced some traffic on the bases and a lone single scored two runs to put Windy City ahead.

The Wild Things, however, would not go quietly, attempting a feverish comeback in the ninth. With two outs, newcomer Nick Ferdinand drew a walk and DH Logan Uxa crushed a line drive off the wall. His near homerun set up the tying run on second base, with Grant Fink to bat. The 3B hit a towering shot to the deepest part of the park, but CF Kevin Barker was able to reach up with his back against the wall to secure the catch, and squash Washington’s comeback.

Washington travels to Avon Ohio Friday for a three game series against the Lake Erie Crusher.  The team returns to CONSOL Energy Park Tuesday the 14th when they will host both Joliet and Windy City respectively. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
