Wild Things Defeat Crushers 4-2

Avon, OH (June 11, 2016- The Washington Wild Things took game two in a three game series against the Lake Erie Crushers by a score of 4-2 Saturday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.

Brandon Hinkle earned the win for Washington, allowing two runs on two hits.  Zac Grotz was impressive in his 1.2 innings of work allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out two.

Washington took an early lead and never looked back.  Jamal Austin scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning after he doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Ricky Rodriguez grounded out to get Austin home. The Crushers’ Carlos Avila answered in the bottom of the inning when he scored on a wild pitch.

But Washington came back in the third inning when Bryan Haar smacked his sixth home run of the season over the fence, driving in Rodriguez and giving Washington a two run advantage.  Again, however, Lake Erie answered when Connor Oliver hit a solo shot, reducing the Crushers’ deficit to one run.

In the fifth inning Nick Ferdinand singled and drove in David Popkins, for what would be the final score of the game.

Washington and Lake Erie meet for the third and final game of the weekend series Sunday at 2:05 p.m.  The Wild Things will return to CONSOL Energy Park to host the Joliet Slammers starting Tuesday.  Tickets are available at the box office.
