Washington Defeats Traverse City 3-2

Traverse City, MI - The Washington Wild Things emerged victorious in a close 3-2 game Tuesday night in Traverse City. Luke Wilkins earned the win on the mound, surrendering four hits and striking out three in 6.1 innings pitched. Traverse City pitcher Kramer Champlin surrendered seven hits and is charged with the loss.

The Wild Things got out too an early lead in the top of the first when a Jamal Austin single set up a Bryan Haar RBI single, giving the Wild Things a 1-0 lead. The Beach Bums answered with a run of their own in the top of the 2nd, courtesy of a Will Kengor lead off solo home run. A lead off double by Austin Wobrock and single from Bryan Haar set up the go ahead run delivered by David Popkins on an inning ending fly out that brought home Wobrock, giving the Wild Things a 2-1 lead.

Washington struck again in the top of the 4th when Andrew Heck was brought home on an error from the Beach Bums short stop, extending the lead to 3-1. The Beach Bums made things interesting in the bottom of the 7th when Christian Santisteban scored on a 1-3 putout, cutting the lead to 3-2. Solid pitching and defense from the Wild Things shut down everything the Beach Bums threw at them as they secured the 3-2 win.

The Wild Things continue their road trip against the Traverse City Beach Bums Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 EDT.
