Wild Things Defeat Boomers in Extra Innings

Schaumburg, IL – The Washington Wild Things took on the Schaumburg Boomers in the final game of a three game series. Washington defeated the Boomers in comeback fashion, winning by a final score of 5-4. Wild Things pitcher Luke Wilkins pitched a solid game, striking out six and surrendering just three hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Derek DeYoung  is charged with the loss for Schaumburg.

In a low scoring pitchers battle, the Wild Things reached base with hits in both the 4th and 6th inning. Bryan Haar reached 1st with a single in the top of the 4th and Ricky Rodriguez found himself in scoring position with a double in the top of the 6th.

The Boomers broke the shutout in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI single from Kenny Towns that brought home Zack Weigel, giving Schaumburg a 1-0 lead. The Boomers found the scoreboard again in the bottom of the 7th with an RBI single from Zack Weigel, extending the lead to 2-0.

The Wild Things began a comeback in the top of the 8th with a double from Logan Uxa. Kyle Pollock drove home Uxa with an RBI single, cutting the lead to 2-1. Washington tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 9th with RBI single from David Popkins that brought home Jimmy Yezzo. Washington completed the comeback in extra innings as a David Popkins sac fly brought home Ricky Rodriguez, giving the Wild Things the go ahead run to make the score 3-2. Jimmy Yezzo added some insurance with two run home run in the top of the 11th, extending the lead to 5-2.
