Washington Prevails Over Traverse City

The Washington Wild Things (36-39) traveled to face the Traverse City Beach Bums (33-44) for a Monday, August 15, 2016 start of a three game set. Washington prevailed over Traverse City with a score of 5-3 in the nine-inning competition.

RHP Matt Fraudin (6-6) earned the win on the mound for Washington. In his six innings on the hill, Fraudin allowed five hits, shutdown eight Beach Bums and lowered his ERA to 3.03. LHP Devon Davis (1-1) recorded the save on the outing, while RHP Michael Shreves (2-8) was the losing pitcher for Traverse City.

Traverse City was the first to tally the scoreboard when Marcos Derkes hit a two RBI single. Washington gained the lead in the fourth when David Popkins lead off with a double, and back-to-back RBI singles were shot from Andrew Heck and Chris Grayson.

Each team recorded a run in the fifth – Wild Thing David Popkins hammered another lead off homerun, and Will Kengor hit a RBI single. Washington scored again in the eighth when Chris Grayson produced a RBI double. Traverse City threatened in the ninth when Jeff DeBlieux doubled, scoring Casey Rodrigue. However, the Beach Bum last inning effort was not enough, resulting in a Washington win.
