Wild Things Offense Sails Over Crushers

The Washington Wild Things (46-48) and the Lake Erie Crushers (47-48) met at All Pro Freight Stadium for a Saturday, September 3, 2016, 7:05 p.m. matchup. The Wild Things defeated the Crushers with a score of 9-3 after the completion of nine innings.

RHP Luke Wilkins (4-7) was the winning pitcher for Washington; during his 5.1 innings on the mound, Powell struck out four Crushers and allowed six hits. Lake Erie RHP Josh Heddinger (2-2) earned the loss on the hill.

Lake Erie scored early when Eric Grabe doubled, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Crushers tallied the scoreboard again in the second when Brendan Costantino hit a sacrifice fly. Washington scored its first run when Lake Erie RHP Josh Heddinger threw a wild pitch in the third – they scored again this inning when David Popkin’s single drove in Chris Grayson.

The Wild Things scored another pair in the sixth when Grant Fink knocked a sacrifice fly, and the Lake Erie Crushers allowed Jimmy Yezzo across the plate on an error. The Washington offensive explosion continued in the eighth and ninth. Andrew Heck’s sacrifice fly scored another run in the eighth. Five Wild Things’ hits in the ninth allowed four more runs, making the final score 9-3 in favor of Washington.

The Wild Things will end their road trip, and season, tomorrow, Sunday, September 4, 2016 against the Lake Erie Crushers starting at 5:05 p.m. EST.
