Wild Things Sign Hard-Throwing RHP Alex Carrillo

WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 1) – The Washington Wild Things have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Alex Carrillo to the 2024 spring roster.

Carrillo most recently spent two seasons and part of spring training this year in the Mexican League with Tigres de Quintana Roo. In 2023, Carrillo appeared in 22 games and had a save in 22.1 innings. He struck out 29 batters last season after fanning 40 in 29.2 innings in his first season in Mexico in 2022. That season he appeared in 21 games.

The righty pitched for the New York Boulders in 2021, appearing in 14 games and whiffing 15 hitters over 19 innings. He was signed by the Rangers organization out of college and pitched in rookie ball in 2019, amassing 4.1 innings with six strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Carrillo finished his collegiate career at Faulkner (NAIA) after starting it at East Los Angeles College. At Faulkner, Carrillo appeared in 37 games over two seasons, starting nine of those and was 8-3 with a 3.79 ERA. In 99.2 innings, he walked only 35 and punched out 101 opposing batters. He also spent some time with St. Cloud in the Northwoods League in 2019 before signing with Texas.
