Washington Walks Off in Game Two
WASHINGTON, Pa. (September 15) - Nick Ward's walk-off double with the power out at Wild Things Park Wednesday has lifted the Wild Things to a series-evening win in the Frontier League Division Series, 4-3 over Équipe Québec. It completed Washington's comeback from down 3-1 entering the bottom of the eighth and made the FLDS a best of three in Canada this weekend.
Équipe Québec started the scoring in the first inning against the Frontier League's Pitcher of the Year Ryan Hennen. Jeffry Parra doubled home LP Pelletier from second to make it 1-0. The Atlantic Division champions extended the lead in the fourth inning with an RBI groundout by Connor Panas.
Washington got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with Scotty Dubrule, who had reached on a book-rule double to start the frame, scored on an RBI base knock by Hector Roa. Gift Ngoepe's homer in the seventh made it a 3-1 game and helped to chase Hennen from the game. The award-winning rookie tossed 6.1 innings of three-run ball (two earned) and did not get a decision. On the first pitch Grant Heyman saw in the bottom of the eighth, he tied the game with a home run to center of the two-run variety.
After BJ Sabol tossed a scoreless ninth, Trevor Casanova doubled to start the bottom half before being thrown out on a fielder's choice on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Joe Campagna. Campagna reached and went to third on an error before scoring on Ward's line-drive double to left center. Sabol got the win to go to 1-0 in his postseason debut after tossing two scoreless innings that went six up, six down. Andrew Case suffered the loss.
The series now shifts to Canada for games three and four with game five being if necessary. Game three of the series is Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Stade Canac in Québec City.
