Season Ticket Holder Spotlight

Q: How long have you been a season ticket holder with the Washington Wild Things?

A: This will be our third year as season ticket holders.

Q: Why did you decide to become a season ticket holder?

A: We decided to become season ticket holders for a couple of different reasons. First of all, it gives us about 50 nights of activities over the summer as a family for a bargain price. Second, the team and staff are amazing! Have you seen a child's face light up when a professional ball player stops over to say hello to them? You cannot put a price on that kind of happiness. Our third reason is the friendships we have made over the years. We refer to the people we have met, both other fans and players, as our baseball family. We love spending time in the open air watching baseball with such amazing people. My husband and I both grew up playing ball, and though our kids have chosen other personal hobbies, a love for the game is something we all share.

Q: How are you involved with the Wild Things Booster Club?

A: I am a member of the new Wild Things Booster Club this year. Our goals this year are to raise addition funds to help the players have a better season, both nutritionally and mentally. You have to remember that this is a league where players stay with host families, and in a lot of hotels on the road trips they make. Food is expensive, and living off of restaurant fried food is not pleasant long term. We are hoping to ease some of the financial strain that the players feel while trying to remain in top athletic form on a limited budget, by offering nutritious alternatives to fast food. When you eat your best, you feel your best, and in turn, you play your best. It all comes back to giving the fans the best possible experience at the ballpark by ensuring our players are healthy!

Q: What do you encourage new fans to try at the ballpark?

A: Don't just sit there and watch the game! Interact with the other fans around, track down the Wild Thing for some photos and CHEER! Stop out on a Sunday with the kids, and let them run the bases after the game. Make sure to go through the player autograph line to say hello face-to-face with some of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Q: Why do you think fans should become season ticket holders?

A: Becoming a season ticket holder saves my family a great deal of money rather buying individual tickets. As wonderful as this town is, there isn't a lot to do for families with kids on a regular basis in the summer. Baseball is a great way for anyone of any age to spend their evenings!

Q: Any thoughts for the 2017 season and 15th year anniversary?

A: We are excited to see some of favorite players return this year, and meet the new players that have joined the roster since last year! I hear that there are some amazing surprises in store this season to help celebrate the Wild Thing's 15th anniversary, so I am hopeful we can pack the park for one heck of a party all season long!

Q: What is your favorite memory with the Wild Things?

A: Wow, that is a tough one! Since we are a family of 5, I think the easiest way to answer is to let each member share their own personal favorite memory!

My son, Ethan, who is 15, loves Firework Fridays. The displays are amazing, with music blasting over the speakers and the fans ohhing and ahhing.

My daughter, Rylee, who is 12, loves interacting with the players before and after the games. There are few players that come over before every game to get their Good Luck Hugs from her and her sister! (I'm looking at you Ricky Rodriguez, Austin Wobrock, Jimmy Yezzo... thanks for making my kids happy!)

My other daughter Baylee, who is 11, loves the fan interaction events! Her favorite being the ice cream eating contest.  She still remembers standing on the dug out with me and racing to eat more ice cream than her sister and dad. (Unfortunately she and I lost, but she still loved it!)

My husband, Dave, says that watching Matt Sergey pitch a perfect game is something he will never forget, and likely never see in person again.  That game was magical.

I don't have a favorite memory per say, but I love watching this team play both at home and on the road.  We have taken many family road trips to see the team. We frequently go to Lake Erie, and have been to Florence, Kentucky.  The players genuinely appreciate the support, and I get to spend more time with my family!

There are a few other memories that I have to share...  Al Yevoli running over to our section to bring the kids milk and cookies before a game because they had made him cookies; Zac Grotz bringing my girls and I jackets at a game when it had suddenly started raining without warning, Connor Lewis and Maxx Garrett calling or texting my kids to wish them Happy Birthday. This is so much more than just a game.  This is human connection at its best, win or lose. The memories and the friendships we have made with the Wild Things are something we will always cherish.

This year we even took a week long road trip to watch some former Wild Things, Maxx Garrett and Shawn Blackwell, play ball in Minnesota!
