Washington Falls 4-1 In Series Finale to Beach Bums

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Traverse City Beach Bums [18-23] were able to salvage the final game of the series against the Washington Wild Things [23-18], winning 4-1 on Thursday night. After scoring just one run and managing seven hits between the first two games of the series, the Beach Bums erupted for four runs on nine hits. 

The Wild Things are now 4-2 against Traverse City this season after the Beach Bums two visits to Washington, Pennsylvania. In both series, Washington won games one and two of the series before being unable to complete the sweep. 

Right-handed pitcher Cameron Stanton (1-2) got the start for the Wild Things, going six innings while being responsible for all of the runs and hits by Traverse City in the game. Relievers Trevor Bradley, Mark Smyth and Zach Strecker put together a three-inning show of shutdown baseball for the Wild Things. 

Meanwhile, for Traverse City, left-handed pitcher Traverse City John Havird (4-2) went 6.2 innings while allowing just one run on four hits and walked three batters. 

Scoring opened in the top of the first inning thanks to a solo home run by shortstop Will Kengor (6) to get the Beach Bums out to a 1-0 lead. Kengor would strike again in the fourth inning with a single to score second basemen Steven Patterson to make the game 2-0 after four innings. 

In the sixth inning, Traverse City would score two more runs thanks to RBI singles off the bat of left fielder Alexis Rivera and catcher Kendall Patrick to have the Wild Things trailing 4-0 after six innings. 

Washington’s lone run came in the seventh inning when third baseman Kyle Reese drove home right fielder Kenny Peoples-Walls for his tenth RBI of the season to bring the game to its final score of 4-1 in favor of Traverse City. 

Washington plays host to Joliet for a weekend set starting tomorrow, Friday, June 29, at 7:05 p.m.
