Gregg Langbehn Takes Field Manager Position for the Washington Wild Things

Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things have tapped Gregg Langbehn to be the manager of the 2016 squad officials announced Tuesday.

"As we began our search, Langbehn stood out above all the others," said General Manager Steven Zavacky.  "He comes with experience and most importantly with both knowledge and success in the Frontier League.  He will be a great addition to our team."

Wild Things' fans may recognize Gregg Langbehn who served as the Traverse City Beach Bums' manager.  He skippered the Beach Bums from 2008 – 2013.  His overall record in Traverse City was 267-212.  He built the Beach Bums into an annual East division playoff contender, advancing to the Frontier League championship series in 2010.

In 2012 Langbehn and his Beach Bums finished with their best mark ever at 64-32, and he was named Manager of the Year. No manager before him coached in more games or won more games as the manager than Langbehn.

Langbehn accumulated impressive statistics during his years in Traverse City.  He coached at least six Frontier League All Stars; he received the Roger Hanners Manager of the Year Award; his team led the league in a number of categories including Home Runs, RBI and ERA.

Prior to managing in the Frontier League, Langbehn coached and managed in the Houston Astros organization. He spent the last two years with the Cleveland Indians as the team's major league replay coordinator.

Langbehn spent eight years as a Minor League pitcher with the Mets, Red Sox and Brewers before moving into coaching.

"I am excited to become the Manager of the Washington Wild Things upon my return to the Frontier League," said Langbehn.   "I look forward to working with the front office staff as we prepare for the 2016 season and continue to assemble our roster in our quest of returning the Wild Things back to the post-season. "

The Wild Things will open their 15th season of Frontier League Baseball on the road.  The home opener is slated for Friday, May 20th when Washington will host the Lake Erie Crushers.  Season and group ticket packages are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office.
