Wild Things and Freedom Split Twin Bill

The Washington Wild Things (31-31) and the Florence Freedom (28-37) split a Saturday, July 30, 2016 twin bill at UC Health Stadium. Washington won the first game, which was a continuation of the rain delay from Friday, July 29, 2016, with a score of 7-3. Florence took the second game with a score of 6-2.

In game one, RHP Trevor Foss (8-3) led Washington on the mound. In his 4.1 innings, Foss allowed seven hits and walked two batters. RHP Zac Grotz (2-2) recorded the win and LHP Devon Davis (1-1) earned the save. Freedom RHP Patrick McGrath recorded the loss.

The Wild Things jumped first, scoring two in top half of the ball game – holding off Florence until the fifth. Washington triumphed offensively, as seven starters produced hits during the outing; resulting in 11 total.

Game two told a different story as the Wild Things fell to the Freedom in a seven-inning competition. RHP Chase Cunningham (3-7) got the nod on the mound for Washington, recording the loss on the game. LHP Tony Vocca earned the win for Florence.

Washington executed solid defense, however, they were outmatched by Florence’s offensive explosion. The Freedom scored in every inning except the fifth, and produced 11 hits. Washington began to rally, scoring in the sixth and the seventh, but the shortened game did not allow the Wild Things a full comeback.

These two teams are back in action tomorrow, July 31, 2015 at 5:05 p.m. in Florence, Kentucky. For information on the Washington Wild Things, purchasing tickets or about CONSOL Energy Park call the box office at 724-250-9555 or visit washingtonwildthings.com.
