Wild Things Play Final Road Tune Up in Avon

AVON, Ohio (May 4) - The Lake Erie Crushers edged the Washington Wild Things in the Wild Things' final road tune up of Spring Training, 6-5. Washington led until the seventh inning but saw some good individual performances in the exhibition contest.

The Wild Things scored three times in the first, first on an RBI single by Alexander Ovalles, then on a sac fly by Andrew Czech and a run-scoring groundout by Daniel Harris IV. Gyeongju Kim spun a scoreless first inning around a leadoff double and a walk. He fanned two in his only inning of work. Washington added a second-inning tally on an RBI double by Caleb McNeely. 

Hunter Stevens was the second of nine guys to throw for the Wild Things in Avon. He worked a scoreless frame with two strikeouts. Lake Erie scored twice against Kenny Williams in the third. Alex Carrillo followed Williams and spun a perfect fourth with a pair of strikeouts. After Washington scored in the fifth on an RBI double by Jalen Miller, Edwar Carrillo whiffed two hitters and allowed a run in the fifth on a sac fly. 

McLain Harris worked a scoreless sixth inning and stranded a runner that reached on an error. Lake Erie plated three in the seventh, Zach Grace worked a scoreless eighth around the leadoff batter reaching via error. He fanned the side. Nick MacDonald worked a clean ninth. 

Offensively, Washington saw McNeely reach twice. Miller and Raul Ortega did the same, while Tyreque Reed and Ovalles both reached three times. Reed walked twice and singled in his spring debut. Ovalles reached three times via singles. 

Washington will play its final exhibition game of the spring tomorrow afternoon at home against Lake Erie at 3:05 p.m. The game at Wild Things Park is open to the public. Seats are sold out, but standing room tickets will be available tomorrow at the Ticket Return box office.
