Washington Wild Things End the Season with a Loss
Midwest defeats Washington 7-3
Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things (48-48), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost their final game of the season to the Midwest Sliders by a score of 7-3 at CONSOL Energy Park Wednesday night. Even though the Wild Things took the lead in the first inning when Jacob Dempsey grounded out to plate Chris Sidick, Washington, who fell behind in the fifth inning, was not able to catch the Sliders, who put up a five run inning that included an Anthony Albano three run homer and Miguel Magrass solo home run. The Sliders added to their lead in the fifth inning when Sam DeLuca led off with a solo shot. Washington answered with one run in the bottom of the fifth with a Sidick RBI triple. Washington added one more run in the seventh to narrow the gap when Brett Grandstrand drove Chris Carrara. But the Sliders added another run in the seventh inning when Dom Lombardi tripled and scored on an error. Zach Groh (5-5) took the loss for Washington, allowing six (earned) runs on nine hits, striking out four. Sam Man, Rick Austin and Joe D’Alessandro pitched in relief. The game completes the 2008 season for the Washington Wild Things. The team will return to CONSOL Energy Park in May of 2009 for their eighth season.
