Wild Things continue losing skid ; Record only one hit against Watson
Ledbetter in rare form in his first loss of the season
Washington, PA—The Washington Wild Things (34-22), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost to the Rockford Riverhawks (28-28) by a score of 10-1Tuesday night at Road Ranger Stadium to drop the first game of their six game road series in Illinois. The Riverhawks scored five runs in the fifth inning to break the game wide open and crush any hope of a Wild Things late rally comeback. The Wild Things bats were very cold through the first seven innings, in which they did not record a hit. The Wild Things tried to get things going in the second, third, and fourth innings with leadoff walks. All however were quickly shut down by strikeouts and rally killing double plays. The Wild Things had something going in the seventh inning when Sutton reached second base on an error and O'Brien was hit by the very next pitch to give the Wild Things runners at first and second. Sutton was moved to third on a fielder's choice and was then scored by another error which was hit by pinch hitter Robbie Knapp to give the Wild Things their first and only run. Jarod Rine recorded the Wild Things first hit of the night in the top of the eighth inning to break up the Riverhawks no-hitter. Matt Sutton scored the Wild Things lone run in the seventh and also recorded a hit in the ninth inning. Right-handed pitcher Aaron Ledbetter (7-1) got the start for the Wild Things. Ledbetter uncommonly only pitched four innings, giving up five hits, six runs, three walks, and striking out only one. Justin Mattison (3-1) came on in the fifth inning to take over pitching. Mattison went one inning, giving up four hits, two runs, and striking out three. Jeff Michael (0-1) came in to pitch the sixth inning for the Wild Things. Michael went two innings giving up only one hit, no runs, and two strikeouts. Alex Sharick (0-0) came in to pitch the eighth inning for the Wild Things. Sharick went one inning giving up two hits, two runs, and striking out one. The Wild Things continue their road stretch Wednesday at 8:05 p.m. EST against Rockford. The game can be heard locally on WJPA 95.3-FM and online at www.msasportsnetwork.com. Washington will return home Monday, July 30th at 7:05 p.m. to host the Riverhawks at CONSOL Energy Park.
