RECAP |
Four run fifth inning gives Wild Things two home victories against Chillicothe
Four Wild Things named to North All-Star team for 2007 Season
Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things (23-16), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Chillicothe Paints (16-24) for the second consecutive game 7-6 on Tuesday night, which was a sellout fireworks night at CONSOL Energy Park. The Wild Things got two men on base in the bottom of the first inning, both which were hit by pitches, the Wild Things double steal attempt turned into a miserable through down the left field line by the Paints catcher to score Chris Sidick for the first run of the game. Again in the second the Paints hit the leadoff batter by a pitch and walked the second on four straight pitches. The Wild Things were in business with two men on and no outs. Another double steal advanced the runners to second and third with one out in the inning. Kyle Werman then laid a nice sacrifice bunt to score Jarod Rine and give the Wild Things a 2-0 lead. With two outs in the fifth inning, Nathan Messner singled and then was taken to third on Robbie Knapp’s double. Both Wild Things runners were brought home on the very next pitch on Matt Sutton’s triple down the right field line. This tied the score at 4-4. After a pitching change by the Paints, Jarod Rine was walked and Pat O’Brien scored Sutton and Rine on a single to right field to give the Wild Things a 6-4 advantage. With one out in the sixth inning, Chris Sidick hit a solo homerun to add a run for the Wild Things, making the score 7-4. Matt Sutton led all Wild Things hitters going 2-for-4 with a single and a triple, two RBI, and adding a run. Chris Sidick went 1-for-2 with a homerun, one RBI, and adding two runs. Pat O’Brien also had two RBI. Left-handed pitcher Tom Cochran (5-1) got the start and the win for the Wild Things. Cochran went five innings giving up six hits, four runs, and striking out two. Ryan Davis (0-0) was brought to pitch in the top of the sixth inning. Davis went two and one-third innings giving up five hits and one run. Ian Heisel (1-1) came in to pitch with one out in the eighth inning. Heisel went one and two-third innings giving up two hits, one run, and striking out one to pick up the save for the Wild Things giving him his fourth of the season. The Wild Things will continue their eight-game home stand tomorrow night for a 4th of July game against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Game time is scheduled to start at 7:05. The Wild Things are home every night through July 9th. For tickets, call the box office at 724-250-9555. -Tommy Lazar -Photo by Amber Miller
