Wild Things get their 20th win of the season; take second straight from Sliders
Sidick and Sutton kept the Wild Things lineup rolling

Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Slippery Rock Sliders for the second consecutive game 6-1 Saturday night at CONSOL Energy Park.

The Wild Things started the first inning with a bang as Chris Sidick led off with a single and was brought home the next at bat with Matt Sutton’s two run home run. This gave the Wild Things a 2-0 lead without the Sliders even recording an out.

The Wild Things received a Chris Sidick homerun to start off the fifth inning, which put the ball club up 3-1. After a base on balls for Jarod Rine, he added to his stolen base total taking second and third giving him 19 for the season.

In the seventh inning, Chris Sidick got on base with a walk and was driven in from first base by Matt Sutton’s double down the left field line. Sutton was scored on a Nathan Messner sacrifice fly to centerfield. Jarod Rine was then scored on a Robbie Knapp single to leftfield to give the Wild Things a 6-1 lead.

Chris Sidick and Matt Sutton gave the Wild Things a monster effort at the top of the lineup giving the team five of their runs and adding four RBI. Sidick went 2-for-4, with a single, homerun, while scoring three and driving in one. Sutton went 2-for-4, with a double, a homerun, while scoring two runs and driving in three. Jarod Rine went 1-for-2 while scoring a run and Pat O’Brien went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.

Right-handed pitcher Chris Rivera (1-0) got the start and the win for the Wild Things (20-15). Rivera pitched five innings giving up five hits, two runs, and striking out three. Ian Heisel was called on in the sixth inning and shut the Sliders down. Heisel went four innings giving up one hit, no runs, while striking out two and recording the save which was his third of the season.

The Wild Things will travel to Slippery Rock Sunday, July 1st for a double header. First game starts at 5:05pm. Their next home stand starts on July 2nd against the Chillicothe Paints. For tickets, call the box office at 724-250-9555.
